Volaris Baggage Allowance, Carry on Fees and Policy

Passengers traveling with Volaris Airlines must check what baggage allowance their ticket includes. Every fare offers a range of luggage options to its passengers to make travel more convenient and reasonable. You can take one carry-on bag with a personal item on board the cabin completely free of charge. On the other hand, Volaris baggage allowance permits checked bags in exchange for a fee. 

However, these policies change according to your ticket conditions and select destination routes. For example, some fares do not include carry-ons, while others are not permitted to check in bags. Learn about the airline’s luggage policies and how you can avoid unwanted charges.

Bags You Can Carry On Volaris Flights

Passengers are allowed to bring two cabin bags on board the Volaris flights. The weight cannot be more than 22 lbs, and the size must be within 22.4 x 15.7 x 12.9. It can be a bag with or without wheels. You can take a handbag, a backpack, a portfolio, a laptop, etc as a carry-on. However, the condition of Zero Fares does not include cabin bags, and passengers have to purchase them for a fee. 

According to the policies, you can either store your cabin bags in the overhead compartment or under the storage of the front seat. If you are carrying a personal item as well, then store the heavy bag in the overhead rack. 

Volaris Offers FREE Personal Item On Board

In addition to the hand luggage, you can pack one personal item free of charge. It can be a small backpack, handbag, briefcase, laptop bag, etc. It should be able to fit under the front seat and measure equal to 22.4 x 15.7 x 12.9 maximum.  However, the total weight of the cabin bag and personal items must not be more than 44 lbs. Some other items that you can bring on board are as follows:

• Infant formula, milk, baby food, or medicines – The medicines could be prescribed or non-prescribed. Passengers must inform the airline about such items, and the items may go through a proper inspection as well. 

• Batteries – Passengers may carry batteries that are for personal use in electrical or electronic devices such as D, C, AA, AAA, 9V, and 6V.

• Alcoholic Beverages: Travelers are permitted to carry 5 lts of alcoholic beverages bought in Duty-Free. It must contain about 24% to 70% volume of alcohol properly sealed with branding. This is allowed only on direct domestic or international routes with no connecting flight.

Rules Set By Volaris For Extra Cabin Bags

A Cabin bag that is over the size and weight limit set by Volarish Airlines is subject to additional charges. Passengers are allowed to add an extra 20 lbs in addition to two carry-on luggage weights by paying an extra fee. If the bag is far bigger than the standard restrictions, the airline may refuse it on board and ask to check it in at the departure gate. 

Carry-On Baggage Fee for Volaris Zero Fare

Volaris Airlines Zero fare tickets do not come with cabin bag inclusion. Fortunately, passengers still have the option to add one by purchasing it online or at the airport. Depending on certain factors, a fee is decided for such passengers. 

Restricted Items On Board 

Some of the articles that are allowed on board are restricted under the baggage policy of Volaris Airlines. For instance, you can take liquid items up to a limit of 100 ml. This must be packed and sealed tightly in a transparent plastic bag. Keep in mind that the container cannot be over the stated limit. Even if you bring liquid, gel, and aerosol in the same quantity but the container is over 100ml, the airline will not accept it.

Volaris Checked Bags Regulations

Volaris allows one checked bag up to 55 lbs and 62 inches. Passengers are allowed to even extend their allowance and submit up to 5 items at the counter. The moment the bag exceeds the weight and size limit, the airline will levy additional charges. A bag can weigh up to a maximum of 99 lbs. Otherwise, the airline may decline the transportation. 

In addition, Volaris Airlines recommends not packing valuable and perishable items in checked luggage. The airline holds no responsibility in case of damage to items that are expensive or have greater value. 

Similarly, checked baggage is not suitable as a carriage for perishable items. You can pack it, but it’s your responsibility to ensure that it complies with all the country’s rules and regulations. Be sure to indicate the gross weight and type of perishable items contained in the packaging. These items include fresh meat, frozen meat, sweets, cakes, flowers, plants, fruits, vegetables, fish, seafood, and milk products

Charges Applied On Volaris Checked Items

Passengers adding checked bags to their allowance have to pay Volaris checked baggage fee. The amount varies depending on the type of fare, booking channel, and the point of purchasing the bag.

Fee For Bags Exceeding Limits

A passenger has to pay extra in addition to the standard fee if the permitted allowance is exceeded. The maximum size must be 78.7 total inches and the weight should not exceed 99.2 pounds. An overweight bag can lie between the following ranges:

•  57.3 – 66.1 lbs

• 68.3 –  77.1 lbs
• 79.3 – 88.1 lbs
• 90 – 99.2 lbs

Special Baggage Policy of Volaris Airlines

Other types of baggage are permitted on Volaris flights are Sports Equipment, Musical Instruments, and your pet. The airline considers such items as checked and carry-on, depending on the weight and size limits. In some conditions, passengers may have to comply with a different set of rules. When the standard limit is exceeded, the airline will charge an additional amount for the item. 

1. Sports Equipment:

Passengers who wish to travel with sports equipment will have to add this service to their reservation. Book the service through the official website under the “My Trip” section, at the airport, or by contacting the airline. It will cost extra charges in addition to the standard fee. We recommend adding sports equipment to the Volaris flight prior to the scheduled departure. A sports item can measure up to 98 inches in total. It can be Bicycles, Diving Equipment, Skis, Golf, Sports Boards, Bowling, etc.

2. Musical Instruments:

You can carry instruments like guitars, bass guitars, violins, Flutes or trumpets, Drum kit accessories, Keyboards, Saxophones, etc. Volaris Airlines will consider your musical instruments as a carry-on as long as they meet the dimensions of 22 x 16 x 10 in and 78.7 inches maximum. Otherwise, you will have to check it by paying the baggage fee at the airport counter. Restrictions are the same as the size and weight of checked and carry-on bags In any case, if the baggage exceeds these restrictions, extra charges will apply. 

3. Traveling with Pets:

Passengers who are traveling with a pet can take them as a carry-on if the container is able to fit under the front seat. Pet Carrier Measurement should be equal to or less than 17.5 x 12 x 7.5 inches if it is carried on board. Otherwise, you will have to check in your pet for its safety. If you are checking in your pet, then the carrier’s weight must not exceed 100 lbs (45 kg). Also, check the airline’s specific conditions for different breeds of animals.

Volaris Restricted and Forbidden Baggage

Every airline has certain items that are restricted on planes due to the safety of people on board.
