The famous South Korean carrier, Asiana Airlines has a less complicated baggage policy. It provides a free allowance to its customers which is subject to a selected route, destination, fare type, and travel class. Making a reservation here can save you money if you pack right according to the Asiana Baggage Allowance rules and guidelines. However, crossing the permitted size and dimensions of a bag can also add up to the overall journey budget. Asiana Airlines is strict with its baggage policies and makes sure to charge extra for excess baggage. 

Asiana Airlines Baggage Terms and Conditions

Asiana Baggage Allowance means the personal belongings of passengers that are carried for traveling. Every airline has its own guidelines for baggage handling which every traveler must know. Asiana Airlines baggage policy contains information related to baggage and customers must pack accordingly. 

There are two types of baggage a passenger is allowed to pack for their journey; checked and carry-on bags. Asiana Airlines checked baggage is delivered to the airline for transportation by issuing a baggage tag. Whereas a carry-on is not delivered to the airline instead, it is carried into the cabin. 

Passengers must pack their baggage after considering the below-mentioned Asiana baggage limit. Make sure to write your name in capital letters along with the contact details on the name tag. Asiana Check In Baggage Allowance

Every passenger can bring bags according to the Asiana Airlines Check In Baggage Allowance. The airline has set free allowances for every passenger according to their cabin class, selected route, and purchased class. For this purpose, passengers are required to meet certain requirements like dimensions and weight limits. Asiana Airlines Baggage Policy states that in order to get the free allowance one has to meet the mentioned restrictions. Otherwise, passengers are liable to excess baggage fees. Asiana International Flight Free Baggage Allowance

Keep in mind that if you have a connecting flight with another airline then the free baggage allowance may differ. Passengers may check in their luggage at the airport counter or via the automated baggage check-in kiosk before going through the departure hall. The permitted size of the Asiana Checked Baggage is A+B+C = 158cm (62 inches) irrespective of fare type. Asiana Airlines has divided the baggage allowance for international flights into two parts as mentioned below:

1. Baggage Allowance for U.S. Routes

For children/infants, passengers can add either a portable stroller, baby walker, car seat, or bassinet.

Asiana Domestic Flight Free Baggage Allowance

Asiana Airlines determines the free baggage allowance for domestic flights on the basis of weight. Please note that the airline may reject the baggage if the sum of three sides is greater than 158cm. Also, the weight of the baggage must not be more than 32kg.  Otherwise, the airline may reject the overweight baggage. It is advisable to speak with the airline in advance for a hassle-free experience. For domestic flights connecting with international flights are eligible for free baggage allowance for international flights. Baggage Allowance According to Asiana Membership Class

Asiana Carry On Dimensions & Size

Asiana carry on size should be – A (Height) 55cm(21 inches), B (Depth) 20cm(8 inches), C (Width) 40cm(16 inches). The airline also states that the sum of three sides of the carry-on must be under 115cm or 45 inches. Further are the specifications of the Asiana Carry-On Baggage Allowance:

• Passengers flying in Business Class can take two carry-ons, each weighing up to 10kg. 
• However, passengers flying in Economy Class can take only one carry-on weighing under 10kg.
• Baggage must be able to fit properly in the overhead bin or under the seat.
• Guidelines for Business Class are also applied to Business Suite.

Important Guidelines for Traveling with Carry-Ons

Passengers are hereby informed not to lose their baggage. If you are bringing a carry-on inside the cabin then you must take full responsibility for carrying and storing in the provided spaces. Therefore, kindly look after your valuable items during the course of the flight and ensure not leave anything behind. Also, keep the following things in mind:

• Be sure that your bag meets the Asiana Airlines carry on dimensions and weight limits. This also includes duty-free goods bought at the airport, it should not exceed the cabin baggage allowance. 
• In addition to the carry-on baggage, passengers can also carry items like a small briefcase, book, laptop, duty-free items, easy meals, crutches for disabled travelers, assistive dogs, strollers, etc. 
• In any case there is a space shortage, passengers may have to check-in their baggage. 
• Passengers traveling with liquids have to store it in a container of 100ml or less. You can also carry it in a liter plastic zipper bag but it must be transparent. 
• Musical instruments like Cello, gayageum, geomungo, guitar, etc are transported only if you purchase an additional seat. The size of an item must not be larger than 155cm.
• Items restricting access to the emergency exit or aisle are not permitted inside the cabin for passenger’s convenience and in-flight safety. 

Excess Baggage Regulation of Asiana Airlines

If the passenger is carrying a bag over the described quantity, size, & weight limitations, it is determined as excess baggage. Any luggage exceeding the free allowance will incur additional charges. It is possible that charges may vary for flights having foreign origin due to differences in currencies. Also, note that the maximum weight and dimension differ from country to country. Thus, contact your local airport if you are traveling with excess baggage. For domestic routes, the airline will charge KRW 2,000 per kilogram per excess bagage.KRW 20,000 is charged per baggage for 10kg. Asiana Guidelines for Handling Special Baggage

Special baggage has a different shape and requires extra care in handling. Such items can be easily affected and damaged during transportation. Therefore, Asiana requests passengers to pack special items inside a case. Some examples of this baggage are musical instruments and sports equipment. 

Musical Instruments

Asiana Airlines regulation for musical instruments varies according to the size of the item. If the instrument is smaller in size like a Violin having a total dimension of 115cm is ideal for carry-on. It is not suitable for checked baggage until or unless it is packed in a separate case. However, it advised to not check in special baggage to avoid the risk of damage. 

If the instrument is larger in size, carry it inside the cabin by purchasing an additional seat. Make sure to inform your airlines in advance to get the permission. Again, if you wish to check in such instruments then pack it properly inside a case otherwise it will not be accepted. 

Sports Equipment

Sports equipment is considered checked baggage if properly packed inside a case. Asiana will not compensate for any damage caused to an item not packed inside a case. Moreover, sports items not listed below are covered under a free baggage allowance as checked baggage. Also, additional charges are applied for excess baggage. As of November 2020, the airline charges a handling fee of KRW 10,000 for larger equipment and discontinued sports equipment benefits.
