Iberia Airlines Baggage Allowance Size 2024 Tips to Pay Less

The airline allows passengers to carry one cabin bag and a personal item inside the cabin. On all the flights operated by Iberia Group, the permitted maximum size dimensions for cabin luggage must not exceed 56 x 40 x 25 cm with a maximum baggage weight of up to 10 kg. 

Iberia Airlines Cabin Baggage Allowance

Iberia Group offers a variety of flights and classes. Iberia baggage allowance varies depending on the flight booked and cabin class selected. Iberia carry on size and dimension allowance for Iberia, Iberia Express, and Iberia Regional Air Nostrum; passengers traveling in Economy and Premium Economy class can carry one cabin bag with a maximum size dimensions of up to 56 x 25 cm x 40 cm with a total luggage weight of not more than 10 kg. Iberia Airlines carry on size dimensions for one personal accessory must be at most 40 x 30 x 15 cm. 

Iberia Airlines Business Class baggage allowance for Short or Medium Haul Flights: passengers can carry one cabin bag of up to 14 kg with a maximum size dimension of up to 56 x 40 x 25. In addition, Iberia Airlines carry on size dimensions for one personal item must be at most 40 x 30 x 15 cm. 

Passengers traveling with Business Plus Long Haul flights can carry up to 2 cabin bags with a maximum baggage weight of up to 14 kg. Iberia carry on size dimensions must not exceed 56 x 40 x 25 cm of the maximum size dimension. Also, they can take one personal item with a maximum size dimension of 40 x 30 x 15 cm. 

Note: The cabin space in Iberia Regional Air Nostrum Aircraft is less than that of regular aircraft. Passengers may or may not be able to carry their hand luggage inside the cabin. In this case, the airline will put the hand luggage in the hold without any additional fees. Iberia take on luggage limitations must be followed to avoid extra charges.

Things To Remember: 

• Passengers must ensure that no luggage exceeds the allowed baggage limit. 
• Cabin luggage with a maximum size dimension of 56 x 40 x 25 cm must fit perfectly inside the overhead bin. 
• The personal item or accessory with a maximum size dimension of 40 x 30 x 15 cm must fit under the seat in front of their seat.
• Allowed maximum weight contains handles, pocket compartments, and wheels. 
• If the baggage limit exceeds, the luggage will be transported as checked baggage.
• The personal accessory may contain a briefcase, handbag, small laptop, etc.
• Passengers traveling with babies can carry their food, drinks, etc., in the bag.
• Passengers are allowed to carry a maximum of up to 1 liter of liquid inside the carry-on luggage. 
• Dangerous items are strictly prohibited inside the luggage.

Iberia Airlines Checked Baggage Allowance

Some airlines don’t offer free checked baggage allowance. However, this is not an issue with Iberia Airlines. Iberia checked the baggage allowance, which is impressive for the passengers as it allows them to carry all their essentials simultaneously. Passengers can have a maximum of up to 23 kg of luggage weight with maximum size dimensions of up to  158 cm, including the handle, pocket, and wheels.

Passengers carrying a weight of more than 23 kg may come under excess luggage and have to pay additional fees to carry the luggage. However, even after paying the fees, airlines only allow passengers to take a maximum weight of up to 32 kg in each piece of luggage. Iberia Airlines mentioned that any bag exceeding 32 kg will not be accepted. Additionally, no luggage transfer option is available, and each passenger must carry their luggage without any fail. 

Iberia Airlines Baggage Allowance for Infants

Iberia Airlines offers passengers additional benefits for the infants traveling. Children under two years of age traveling on their parents’ lap must pay only 10% to 30% of adult fare. However, if any child, even under two, is occupying a seat, the airline will treat them as a child aged 2 to 11. Passengers can carry an authorized car seat for the child if the child is traveling on a separate seat. 

Children under 2 to 11 years and infants under two years of age traveling with their parents or adults can carry the same Iberia Airlines Economy Baggage Allowance as an adult, including a foldable stroller or a car seat. While having a stroller, the crew may put it on hold if there is not enough space in the cabin. 

If any infant under eight months old travels, the airline can carry up to 11 kg of infant baggage weight for each Iberia Aircraft on an Intercontinental flight.

Iberia Excess Baggage Policy

Passengers traveling with Iberia carrying luggage exceeding the allowed limit must pay additional charges. Additionally, passengers can carry up to nine bags. Iberia Airlines excess baggage fees depend on the destination and apply when the luggage weight exceeds 23 kg up to 32 kg. Passengers carrying more than 23 kg baggage and a maximum of not more than 32 kg will have to pay a surcharge of 60 Euros. Iberia Plus Membership Benefits

Infinita Prime, Infinita, and Platino Members: Passengers with Plus memberships can carry their excess luggage free of charge. However, the airline offers this service only on the flights operated by Iberia Group, such as Iberia, Iberia Regional Air Nostrum, and Iberia Express. 

Oro And Plata Members

Infinita Prime, Infinita, and Platino Members: These memberships offer exceptional benefits to the passengers. No excess baggage charges are applicable under these memberships on the flights operated by Iberia. 

Note: Iberia Airlines considers Sports Equipment and Musical Instruments as a part of baggage allowance on Iberia Singular, Iberia Plus Infinita, Platino, Oro, and Plata Members. However, oneworld members are not eligible to avail of the benefit. 

Iberia Plus Members

Passengers traveling with Iberia Plus membership can get many benefits for their baggage allowance. However, the benefits depend on the type of flight booked, such as long-haul, medium & short-haul flights.

Long-Haul Flights Membership Benefits

Passengers with long-haul flights with an Iberia Plus membership may get an exceptional baggage allowance. Travelers on the flights operated by Iberia to or from America and Asia will get the below-mentioned benefits:

Things To Remember:

• Only Iberia Plus Infinita Prime, Infinita, Singular, Platino cardholders, and Emerald Cardholders with American Airlines and British Airways are covered under the policy for overweight baggage with a maximum luggage weight of up to 32 kg. 
• Passengers traveling with Oneworld Airlines having Emerald Cards are not eligible for this benefit and already get an additional bag allowance of up to 23 kg. 
• Iberia Group-operated flights such as Iberia, Iberia Regional Air Nostrum, Iberia Express, and Iberia Plus Infinita Prime members, Infinita, Singular, and Platino Cardholders who booked Business class are eligible to carry 2nd additional bag for free.
• Iberia Plus Oro And Oneworld Sapphire cardholders can carry up to a maximum of 23 kg in an additional bag if the baggage allowance is 0 to 1 bag.
• Passengers having Iberia Plus Plata Cardholders traveling only on Iberia flights are allowed free baggage allowance and additional baggage if their baggage allowance is 0 to 1 bag.

Medium and short-haul flights

Things To Remember:

• 32 kg per baggage policy for overweight baggage applies to Iberia Plus Infinita Prime, Infinita, Singular, Platino Cardholders, and Emerald Cardholders with American Airlines and British Airways.
• Passengers traveling with Oneworld Airlines having Emerald membership are already eligible for an additional bag of up to 23 kg. 
• Passengers traveling on Iberia Group-operated flights such as Iberia, Iberia Regional Air Nostrum, and Iberia Express having Iberia Plus Infinita Prime, Infinita, Singular, and Platino memberships are eligible to carry an additional second bag for free.
• Iberia Plus Oro and Oneword Sapphire members can carry an additional luggage of up to 23 kg for their 0 to 1 bag allowance.
• Passengers traveling on Iberia flights can only carry their excess luggage and additional baggage for free when their allowance is 0 to 1 bag.
• However, passengers must know that free excess weight of up to 32 kg per bag is not applicable for adding additional bags.

Iberia Baggage Allowance for Special Items

Many travelers carry entirely or partially restricted items and need special permission/limitations while flying. The airline restricted the things that may cause severe injury to the passengers or cause damage to the aircraft. Electronic Items

Iberia baggage policy states that passengers traveling can carry and use some electronic items inside the cabin. However, the airline suggests that the items, such as phones, tablets, PDAs, etc., must be in flight mode. Passengers must not use their mobile devices during take-off and landing. The devices must be turned off if the passenger carries them inside the checked luggage. Here is a list of items that are allowed during the flight but on flight mode:

• Personal computers with or without an external mouse

Note:  Passengers must ensure the devices are in proper and good condition, as the airline doesn’t accept damaged devices. In case of device or battery damage, overheating, or emitting smoke, passengers must ensure the crew is on the real-time.

Strictly Prohibited Items

The airline strictly restricted the items and would not even accept them. The items are not allowed as checked or as hand luggage, including hoverboards, electric bikes, scooters, airwheels, mini-segways, etc. 

Sports Equipment

Traveling with your sports equipment is not a hassle anymore. Iberia’s baggage policy allows passengers to carry sports equipment such as golf clubs, skating equipment, diving equipment, bicycles, etc. Passengers must ensure the equipment is adequately packed and under the allowed limit to avoid damage or loss. The allowed weight for the equipment is 23 kg. If, in any case, the passenger exceeds the limit, Iberia baggage fees for excess luggage will apply for a maximum weight of up to 32 kg. 

Bicycle: Bicycles are allowed to carry in Iberia. However, the bikes must be non-motorized as the airline doesn’t allow E-bikes or bicycles. Passengers must ensure the packaging is proper, under the airline’s restrictions, fix the handlebars sideways, and remove pedals and deflated tires. The bicycle must be packed inside the bike box with a maximum dimensions of 131 x 72 x 21 cm. 20 Euro per unit will be the applicable charge to transport the bicycle from one destination to another.

Wheelchairs

Iberia Airlines allows passengers to carry a mechanically powered wheelchair, walker, crutches, etc., completely free. However, there are specific requirements to have wheelchairs as well. Check all the below-mentioned types of Iberia baggage restrictions for wheelchairs:

Dry Battery-Powered Wheelchairs: Passengers carrying dry batteries must ensure the terminals are appropriately isolated to avoid any short circuits attached to the chair and disconnected. 

Wet Battery-Powered Wheelchairs: Passengers can carry wet battery-powered wheelchairs. However, the power must be disconnected, and the terminals must be isolated. The battery must be leak-proof. 

Musical Instruments

Bulky And Heavy Items

Passengers traveling with bulky or heavy luggage that exceeds the allowed linear size dimensions of 158 cm will have to carry their bags under the Bulky/Heavy luggage category. Additionally, travelers will have to contact the guest care staff in advance for space availability and allowance. Passengers carrying luggage that weighs more than 23 kg but under 32 kg will have to pay the excess luggage fees at the airport. However, if the instruments weigh between 32 kg and 45 kg, the airline may consider it an additional luggage item and charge for it.

Firearms and Ammunition

Weapons like firearms and ammunition can be carried on an Iberia flight under the Iberia baggage restrictions. The airline allows passengers to take only hunting or sports equipment, considered dangerous goods and must be carried in the aircraft hold section. Additionally, the airline may charge extra fees for the luggage. 

Long Weapons (Rifles and Shotguns): Only two rifles or shotguns with a maximum of 5 kg of ammunition per passenger are allowed. Also, the airline allows passengers to carry one additional case or bag of shooting equipment. 

Short Weapons (Guns): The airline provides passengers access to up to two gun cases with a maximum of up to 5 guns and 5 kg of ammunition per passenger.

The airline allows passengers to carry almost every item on the flight except dangerous goods and banned items. However, some things are partially prohibited and permitted under the restricted limit. Here is a list of wholly forbidden items in the aircraft:

• Explosives: Munitions, fireworks, detonators, material for expeditions, mines, grenades, flares, smoke canisters, etc.

• Toxic or Infectious Substances: Incapacitating devices, samples for diagnosis, vaccines, rat poison, insecticides, herbicides, pesticides, arsenic, infected blood, bacteria, or viruses.
• Radioactive Material: Pharmaceutical products with radioactive isotopes.
• Corrosives: Acids, alkalis, apparatuses with mercury, electrical accumulators, car batteries, or other machines activated electrically by batteries.
• Lithium Batteries and E-Cigarettes
• Gasses And Gas Cylinders: Compressed gases, liquefied gases, refrigerated liquefied gases, or dissolved gases, such as propane, butane, acetylene, oxygen, nitrogen, insecticides, scuba tanks, or lighters refills.
• Other Dangerous Items: Other items such as petrol engines, magnetized materials, lithium batteries, or genetically modified organisms.
• Liquid Oxygen Systems: Liquid oxygen systems and electroshock weapons that contain explosives, compressed gases, or lithium batteries.

Partially Banned Items

Here is a list of items allowed as checked luggage only. Passengers are not allowed to carry these items inside the cabin:

• Guns and Firearms: pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, compressed air pistols/flare guns/toy pistols/paintball guns, replicas/imitation firearms, crossbows, bows for arrows, harpoons-fishing guns, slingshots, catapults.
• Stunning Devices: Stun guns, tasers, stun batons, animal stunners/animal killers, mace, pepper sprays, capsicum sprays, tear gas, acid sprays, and animal repellent sprays.
• Sharp Weapons or Edged Objects: Axes, hatchets, ice picks, razor blades, box cutters, arrows, darts, harpoons, spears, ski/hiking poles, martial arts equipment with a sharp point or sharp edge, swords, sabers, scissors, knives, and any other sharp object.
• Tools: Work tools such as crowbars, hammers, drills, saws, circular saws, blowtorches, bolt guns, etc., can only be transported or carried as cargo.
• Blunt Instruments: Bats, batons, clubs, golf clubs, oars, skateboards, fishing rods, martial arts equipment.
• Explosives and Incendiary Substances: Ammunition, blasting caps, detonators, imitation explosive devices, mines, grenades, pyrotechnics, smoke-generating canisters/cartridges, dynamite, gunpowder, and plastic explosives.

Iberia Baggage Allowance for Liquids

If you are carrying any liquid inside your carry-on luggage, check the restrictions below first:

First Regulation: Liquids, gels, or aerosols unless placed in individual containers with no more than 100 ml capacity.

Second Regulation: All the containers must be placed inside a transparent resealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity of not more than 1 liter.

Third regulation: Passengers must ensure the items fit inside the bag completely. 

Iberia Baggage Allowance for Pets

Passengers traveling with Iberia Airlines will be happy to know that the airline allows them to travel with their pets. However, there are some restrictions under which the pets can be carried in a cabin or checked luggage. The airline may take requests to carry the pets depending on space availability, and passengers can directly call the contact center for real-time information. 

The airline released various guidelines for pet travel, and traveling with guide dogs is one of them. There are a few exceptions for the service dogs. The passengers can carry their pets in the hold, inside the cabin, or as checked luggage. For every situation, there are some different restrictions.

Pets in The Hold

Iberia Airlines allows passengers to carry their cats and dogs in the hold. There are many animals that are considered dangerous breeds by the airlines. Check below the carrier restrictions to transport dogs and cats on an Iberia Group flights:

• The carrier or crate must be rigid and made of solid material. 
• The crate must be escape-proof and have a secure locking system.
• Passengers must ensure that the pet inside the crate can stand naturally, turn around, and lie down properly without any hassle.
• The kennel must be adequately ventilated, and food-water must be available inside it.
• The crate must be completely waterproof to avoid any leakage.
• Passengers can carry up to two animals inside a single crate if the animals are used to each other and comfortable. 
• The maximum allowed weight must be 14 kg each to transport two animals in a single carrier.
• Passengers can carry an overall maximum weight of up to 45 kg for pets and crates. 
• However, pets exceeding the weight of 45 kg may be sent through WOOF Airlines. 
• Passengers must book for the pet at least 48 hours before the scheduled flight departure.
• Kennel size and quantity vary depending on the aircraft type. 
• However, the maximum size dimensions allowed in Iberia Regional Air Nostrum flights must be at most 83 x 65 x 56 cm.

Traveling inside The Cabin

Passengers can carry their dogs, cats, fish, tortoises, and birds inside the cabin. However, prior approval is required, and passengers can directly call the contact center to resolve the issues in no time:

• The maximum allowed weight is 8 kg, including the container.
• The dimensions must not exceed 45 x 35 x 25 cm, and the maximum linear size dimension must not exceed 105 cm.
• The crate must be thoroughly ventilated.

Traveling with Service Dogs

Passengers can even travel with assistance dogs, specially trained dogs to offer services to the disabled person. Many airlines treat service dogs as an exception so that visually impaired, persons with disabilities or under medical conditions can travel without hassle. 

• Passengers can travel with service dogs carrying all the required documents and certificates. 
• Passengers must ensure the dog is always controlled with a collar, harness, or leash.
• No dog is allowed to roam freely inside the cabin as this may cause inconvenience to other passengers.
