Heavy or Oversized Baggage Allowance

The airline presented the passengers with a separate chart for heavy or oversized bag charges. Check the below points to take an overview of the Finnair baggage policy for heavy or oversized baggage:

  • The maximum weight of the luggage may exceed 50 lbs (23 kg) but must be at most the overall heavy weight of 70 lbs (32 kg).

Oversized/Overweight Baggage Charges at The Airport

Firearms and Ammunitions

Finnair always charges for firearms irrespective of the type and size. The handling charges to carry firearms vary from region to region. A fee of €50 per firearm is applicable on all the flights within Finland and Europe. Similarly, the airline will charge €100/$110 per firearm for the flights between Asia, North America, and the Middle East. Remember the below-mentioned points before packing: 

  1. The handling fees include 1 extra piece of baggage of not more than 23 kg.

Musical Instruments

Carrying musical instruments on a flight depends on the size, instrument, and availability. If it fits under your cabin luggage size allowance, 1 instrument will count as 1 carry-on baggage. 

Instrument as a Cabin Luggage: Passengers must ensure that the instrument is packed in a hard case to avoid any damage. The linear size dimension of the baggage must not exceed 125 cm (49 in) including its packaging case. Also, the instrument must be under the Finnair carry-on baggage weight allowance so that it fits under the seat in front of you or inside the overhead bin. Additionally, you can carry 1 personal item, such as a handbag, small laptop backpack, etc. (except for passengers with Superlight fare). Finnair allows passengers to carry the instrument inside the cabin even if it exceeds the allowed limit which is 125 cm (49 in) and weighs up to 8 kg/12 kg. Instrument as a Checked Luggage: Passengers can carry musical instruments as their checked luggage. The instrument must be of up to 50 lbs (23 kg) with a maximum size dimension of not more than 90 x 75 x 45 cm (35 x 30 x 18 in). Large musical instruments must not exceed the maximum size dimensions of 190 x 75 x 65 cm and weight of up to 70 lbs (32 kg).
