ITA Airways baggage allowance follows the general rule for carrying cabin and checked baggage on the day of travel. Travelers planning their trip with the airline will get a free baggage allowance according to the travel class of the purchased ticket. The main motive of the airline is to fulfill travel requirements in an efficient and competitive manner. Thus, with basic baggage rights, every passenger is eligible for some sort of special service or offer. The shared details of the ITA Airways Baggage Policy will help you understand more about what you can carry and what you cannot. Getting yourself familiar with the airline’s luggage rules is crucial to avoid additional charges.
ITA Airways Carry-on Baggage Allowance
ITA Airways hand baggage allowance lets passengers carry bags up to 8kg and within 55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm (height x width x depth). While measuring the dimensions of a bag, ensure that you include handles, side pockets, and wheels as well. Besides, passengers are permitted to bring a handbag, backpack, or a personal device (laptop/ tablet) in addition to a cabin bag. The size of such items must be under 45 cm x 36 cm x 20 cm as per ITA Airways cabin baggage allowance. These personal items are labeled as “Under the seat” on all domestic and international flights.
Every carry-on bag undergoes a baggage measure process before being boarded on the plane. The staff will check the size and weight of your bag, and if it doesn’t comply with the allowance, the airline may not accept it. In some conditions, the staff will ask to put your luggage on hold due to space unavailability or passenger safety.
Items NOT Allowed In Cabin
In accordance with the ITA Airways baggage allowance, some items are prohibited in the cabin for the safety of passengers and crew members. These items are considered risky for flight operations and can endanger security. We kindly advise you to avoid the following listed articles:
- Suitcase with inbuilt alarm devices
- Compressed gases
- Corrosive substances
- Firearms, weapons, ammunition, and imitation/ toy weapons.
- Toxic flammable and non-flammable liquids.
- Items with a pungent smell.
- Radioactive substances
- Samsung Galaxy Note 7
Restrictions on Liquid Items
Passengers carrying liquid items have to comply with the security measures laid by the European Union and the ENAC. Guidelines stated in this section apply to flights departing from any airport within the European Union. It includes liquids such as gels, pastes, lotions, hair gels, drinks, syrups, perfumes, shaving foam, aerosols, etc.
- Passengers can carry small quantities of 100 ml inside their carry-on bag. You have to place the container of the liquid item in a transparent plastic bag. It should be resealable and under 18 cm x 20 cm in size. The capacity of the transparent bag should not be over 1 liter, and each passenger can carry only one such bag.
- You may carry medicine or food items like baby formula over the standard quantity. However, you may have to get permission from the airline.
- Liquid duty-free items purchased at the airport are permitted inside the flight cabins. They are already packed according to the airline regulations. Make sure not to open the seal until you reach the final destination.
ITA Airways Checked Baggage Allowance
Travelers can check in bags up to 158 cm (sum of all sides) in size. Bags should weigh up to 23kg and 32 kg, according to the purchased fare class and selected route. As for the quantity, it varies based on the different fare classes for the airline. For instance, ITA Airways business class baggage allowance permits two checked bags of up to 32kg. Meanwhile, passengers with economy class tickets can check in only one up to 23kg. In contrast, some fares offer no checked bags at all. Similarly, the allowance is different for other classes as well:
Travel Classes | Baggage Allowance |
Light | Not Permitted |
Economy | One bag x 23 kgTwo bags X 23 kg from/to Japan |
Premium Economy | Two bags x 23 kg |
Business | Two bags x 32 kg |
Comfort (Rome-Milan) | Two bags x 23 kg |
ITA Airways Baggage Fees
Any baggage over the standard allowance will lead to the application of an ITA Airways checked baggage fee. Passengers will have to pay extra, or else the airline will refuse to accept the bag. If you are flying on a tight budget, you may want to pack light and right according to the ITA Airways baggage allowance. Additional charges can make your whole trip a little expensive.
On the other hand, the excess baggage policy lets passengers carry over and above their allowance. If you wish to carry more, scroll down to check ITA Airways Baggage Fees, depending on the nature of your bag.
A bag can be oversized, overweight, or both, but the charges are not the same. Here, we have shared the applicable chargers on extra pieces and bags that exceed the standard limits. The amount may vary based on the selected destinations.
