Middle East Airlines Baggage Allowance offers checked and carry-on bags free of charge to its passengers. Being a flag carrier, the airline takes its baggage policies seriously to satisfy the travel requirements of its customers. The permitted number of bags for a passenger is decided considering the chosen travel class, selected route, and purchased fare. Conditions for these factors are clearly described in the MEA baggage policy. Whether it’s your first time experience with the airline or not, it is crucial to know every part of the policy. You might have to pay additional charges if you do not follow what’s stated in your ticket allowance. Therefore, before packing your bags, make sure to go through this blog for a quick session on MEA baggage allowance.
Middle East Airlines Hand Baggage Guidelines
MEA baggage policy allows passengers to carry cabin bags with them without additional charges. Bags are only accepted if they are tagged with a “cabin luggage” label. The weight of the bag should be under 10kg and 8kg for Dusseldorf _DUS and Copenhagen _CPH. According to the Middle East Airlines Baggage Allowance, the size of the bag should be 121 cm in total, i.e., 56 cm + 40 cm + 25 cm. Do measure the pockets, wheels, and handles of the bag when checking the size. Aside from a cabin bag, you can bring one personal item, which should be within 85 cm in total (30 cm x 40 cm x 25 cm).
One can either choose to bring a suitcase or a small laptop bag. Ensure your accessory is able to fit the space under the front seat unless you booked a seat in an emergency row. In such circumstances, you can place your accessory in the overhead compartment. Additionally, if you are flying on an international flight, you may take the following items on board for free:
- Clothing item
- Umbrella
- Walking stick
- Handbag
- Collapsible wheelchair
- Crutches
- Foldable stroller
- Food formula for children
- Prosthetic devices
- Reading material like books or magazines
Liquid Goods Restrictions in the Cabin
Passengers can pack liquid items in their cabin bags, given they meet the necessary requirements. You can check the listed conditions if you are bringing liquids, aerosols, or gel-based items.
- Pack the items in a container with 100 mL capacity. Larger containers are not accepted even if they are partially filled.
- Passengers are instructed to pack these containers in a transparent plastic bag. The volume of this bag should be under one liter, and its dimensions should be 20 cm x 20 cm.
Middle East Airlines Infant Baggage Allowance Policy
The airline understands that along with the responsibilities, the baggage also increases when you travel with the little one. Thus, MEA baggage allowance lets you check a foldable stroller free of charge. In case it meets the carry-on restrictions, you can carry it on board. However, in some cases, you may have to check it in due to space availability.
In case you require a Child Restraint System or a car seat for the infant, you can check it free of charge. You have to make a prior reservation if you want to carry it on board. It should be in good condition and approved for air transportation.
MEA Checked Baggage Allowance
Middle East Airlines Baggage Allowance for checked bags follows two concepts based on weight and piece. Passengers are permitted to check in bags for free if it is under the stated restrictions. Under the weight concept, the heaviness of the baggage matters. The pieces of the bags don’t count as long as the combined weight is within the limitations. The weight bracket is different for every class and selected destination. If the baggage is for an infant, it can weigh no more than 10kg.

MEA Baggage Policy for Special Items
Passengers who love traveling with their own equipment and instruments will be happy to know that it’s easier with the MEA baggage policy. The airline has specific guidelines for musical instruments and sports equipment. Baggage restrictions are still applicable on these items.
Sports Equipment
One piece of sports equipment is allowed free of charge up until it meets the weight limit, i.e., 23kg. If you bring an extra bag (≤23kg), the airline will charge 200 USD or the equivalent amount in the local currency. You may bring a golf set, diving equipment, cycle, surfboard, skiing equipment, etc. Please note that rackets and sticks are not allowed in cabin luggage, but you can submit them at the counter.
Musical Instruments
If your instrument is in accordance with the carry-on baggage, you can bring it into the flight cabin. Such bags can be flutes or violins. If you bring bigger instruments like a bass or cello, you can book an additional seat in the cabin. These instruments cannot fit the overhead locker. Therefore, timely inform the airline and book an additional seat for a smooth travel experience. Passengers also have the option to submit the instrument at the check-in counter. This is to inform you that musical instruments over 45kg and 175 cm require prior reservation before the scheduled departure.
Domestic Pets
Passengers can travel with their furry pets as per the Middle East Airlines Baggage Allowance. A special request must be submitted to the airline for approval before the scheduled takeoff. The airline will transport your pet in the aircraft cabin or in the hold. Pets under 7kg are accepted inside the flight cabin, and the weight combined with that of the kennel shall not exceed 10kg. Furthermore, the size of the bag should be max. 40 cm x 24 cm x 24 cm. Meanwhile, a pet can weigh up to 75kg when transported in the aircraft hold. Please ensure you keep all the necessary documents, like vaccination certificates, on the day of travel. Check the applicable charges for pet transportation:
